So the university got back to us with their recommendations on an AAC device.

They recommended the SpringBoard Lite.
Now we get to figure out how to pay for it. They're going to bill our insurance and take the rest of our Medicaid, and then I think we'll discuss things with the school district.

You know, I really wish I could just buy software and laptop. Both are cheap enough that it ought to be possible.  In one of my fantasy careers, maybe that's what I'll do - make software mods for laptops. You could take old tablets and convert them to AAC devices running modified Linux.

  1. It's probably not that hard and probably would be cheaper.

  2. That's not too bad a price, but if you don't have the wiggle room, you don't have it. :-(

  3. We'll manage it if we have to. It really could be a lot worse.

  4. They have those tiny new hp notebooks for under 200...I bet you could do something with one...just as an aside..what is your blog picture of? I keep thinking of a "tribble" with teeth! I love it...whatever it is..

  5. Exactly - technology is getting to the point where it's the software that should matter more than the hardware. It would still need a touch screen, though.

The picture is Fizgig from the Dark Chrystal. It was a fuzzball with teeth. ;-)
